I Killed The Prom Queen - Music For The Recently Deceased

Australia’s I Killed The Prom Queen is fully capable of churning out patterned metalcore sounds, but the band’s lack of creativity results in a rather lackluster listen on “Music For The Recently Deceased.”

Even if you’re a neck-deep in the rough, dedicated metalcore worshipper, run of the mill cuts such as “Bet It All On Black” and “Say Goodbye” won’t open your ears to a brand new world of sounds. Essentially a crossbreed of The Autumn Offering and The Black Dahlia Murder, I Killed The Prom Queen churns out Dave Murray licks and Sean Martin chugging as frontman Edward Butcher spews raspy guttural barks and axe-grinder Jona Weinhofen emits the obligatory, sugar-coated clean vocal counterpoint.

Formulaic and painfully predictable, “Music For The Recently Deceased” is the end product of a vast lack of innovation that’s simply all too familiar in today’s scene.

A hundred other bands will find this record to be quite flattering, but neither vegan power nor appealing to Jamey Jasta’s better nature is enough to save “Music For The Recently Deceased” from being desperately mundane.
